A Look at Local Creativity

The Wilson Arts Center will host the Wilson Active Artists Association (WAAA) Biennial Group Exhibition from January 15 to February 19, with a free opening reception on Thursday, January 15, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Enjoy an easy, after-work chance to view the exhibition and meet local artists.

Founded in 1965 by a small group of Wilson artists, the WAAA is one of Wilson’s longest-running arts organizations, and this year’s biennial reflects both its history and its momentum. More than half of the association’s members are represented, with works spanning painting, sculpture, ceramics, and fiber art, providing a varied and thoughtful look at the creative voices shaping Wilson today.

Shown alongside the WAAA exhibition is the Nash Correctional Art Club Group Exhibition, featuring work by incarcerated artists from Nash Correctional Institution. The exhibition highlights art’s ability to foster expression and human connection, with proceeds from any sales benefiting the United Ministries Bassett Center in Rocky Mount.

Both exhibitions are free and open to the public and may be viewed Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., through February 19. Plan your visit to the Wilson Arts Center this winter to experience the creative work on display and connect with your local arts community.
