Wilson came together to honor those who served during this year’s Veterans Day Ceremony, hosted by the Wilson Committee on Patriotism. The event featured guest speaker Theresa Mathis from the City of Wilson’s Human Relations Office and included performances by the New Hope Elementary School Chorus, directed by Sara Bennington, and the National Anthem sung by Tynia Pender of the Wilson Chapel FWBC Youth Choir.
In addition to the featured performances, Junior ROTC members from Beddingfield, Hunt, and Fike high schools participated in the flag ceremonies. The program also included a POW/MIA remembrance, wreath placement honoring Wilson County’s fallen service members, and prayers from Chaplain James A. Faison. The ceremony concluded with a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps.”
After the ceremony concluded, attendees were invited to enjoy a free hot dog lunch, offering an afternoon of fellowship and appreciation for Wilson’s veterans.
