Worldwide Wilson

As you may have seen in a recent Wilson Times article, the guestbook at Wilson County Tourism’s new downtown location has been filling up in a pretty remarkable way over the past year. Travelers from both near and far have stopped to sign their names, and in the process, an exciting milestone was reached: representation from all 50 states! Even more impressively, those signatures also represent 15 countries and every inhabited continent, showing just how enticing our community has become.

What makes that accomplishment even more special is how organically it happened. There was no checklist taped to the wall, no announcement counting things down; just travelers wandering in, curious about Wilson, eager to explore, and happy to share where they call home. While the Whirligig Park remains a major draw, others came for a sports tournament, while others attended a festival or took a detour on a road trip. Some were snowbirds chasing warmer weather and others, families, retirees, or lifelong adventurers, came to collect stories instead of souvenirs.

Along the way, the guestbook became a reflection of Wilson’s growing popularity. Visitors arrived from bustling cities and quiet towns, from nearby states and far-flung corners of the map. Many were drawn by the unmistakable spin of the whirligigs, others by the buzz of athletic competitions and events, and some simply by the charm of downtown and the ease of hopping off a train to explore. Each signature told a different story, but together, they painted a picture of a place people are choosing to seek out.

Reaching all 50 states is more than a milestone for Wilson; it’s a clear sign that our community resonates across the nation, with memories and stories spreading far beyond our borders. This achievement signals an even brighter future for Wilson’s guestbook and its growing reach.
