Classical music came to Downtown Wilson this past Saturday as the North Carolina Symphony took the stage at the Edna Boykin Cultural Center for an evening of live music. The concert was also part of the Symphony’s “Concerts in Your Community” series, celebrating the music and arts in communities state-wide.
The September 26 performance, “Mendelssohn and Mozart,” featuring Haydn’s Symphony No. 39, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. The orchestra was led by Grammy-winning conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto, with acclaimed violinist Justin Bruns joining the orchestra for Mendelssohn’s celebrated concerto.
The Wilson performance was part of the North Carolina Symphony’s Wilson County Music Residency, a program generously supported by the Anonymous Trust that brings professional orchestral performances and music education opportunities into the community. The Symphony’s “Concerts in Your Community” series, celebrating the music and arts in communities across the state, giving localities across the opportunity to share classical music to everyone.
The historic Edna Boykin Cultural Center provided the setting for the evening, bringing the full orchestra into one of Wilson’s longstanding cultural spaces. The free performance offered attendees an opportunity to experience live orchestral music by the North Carolina Symphony right here in Wilson.
