The North Carolina Museum of the Coastal Plain was founded in 2006, and received its first grant in July 2008 from the Wilson County Tourism Authority.   The Museum was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2009. The Imagination Station Science Museum of Wilson, North Carolina generously offered the third floor of its building to the Museum in 2009, and the first exhibits opened in 2010.
