Every Brilliant Thing
Barton College Performing Arts, in partnership with Honest Pint Theatre Company, known for its compelling and intimate storytelling, presents Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe’s critically acclaimed hit, Every Brilliant Thing. This deeply moving, hilarious, life-affirming, interactive solo performance balances humor and vulnerability as it tackles the complexities of mental health, resilience, and the everyday wonders that make life worth living.
Every Brilliant Thing follows a young child who learns that their mother has been hospitalized following a depression-fueled suicide attempt. To offer comfort, the child begins a list of everything truly wonderful about the world:
- Ice cream
- Water fights
- Staying up past your bedtime to watch TV
- Friendly dogs
As the narrator matures into adulthood, the list grows alongside them, evolving from a simple childhood coping mechanism into a lifelong anchor of hope.
